AIRLINE FIRSTS

It is almost 2 pm on Saturday and a number of us are settling in at a rental house while others are being settled in at two other places. It is hot but a fresh refreshing breeze is blowing and overall we are all in good shape and will rest today because we have a busy day tomorrow going to various churches and a conference on Islam in the evening.

Today was a day of airline firsts. I experienced my longest airplane taxi ride and my shortest airplane taxi ride. When we left terminal 3 in Toronto on Friday evening before takeoff we must have taxied for 15 minutes. I thought that we might be driving to another airport for takeoff.
We landed in Trinidad around 4:30 AM to drop off passengers and take on a few others and then after a very short taxi we had to stop at the main runway because someone saw a dog beside the runway. The pilot funnily commented that the airport was officially shut down because of the wandering dog and nothing could move until someone went out and found the dog. (What do you think Mandy?) This was also a first for me. (The lady across the street just made coffee for us – delicious).
Another airline first was when we refueled in Toronto and Trinidad. The airhostess requested that we leave our seatbelts unsecured and aisles free while they were refueling the plane. I presume that was in case the plane blew up and caught fire some of us could get out.
One final airline first was when we were ready to leave Trinidad the hostess announced that before we left they were going to spray the cabin with us in it. What? Yes, to kill any malaria infested mosquitoes hitching a free ride to Guyana.
So we landed just after 7 to a muggy Guyanan morning

I was able to give two DVD’s to a couple and lady traveling to Trinidad.

We loaded the 12 passenger van and two smaller vans for the long trip to our temporary homes giving away DVD’s as we went along. Saw some beautiful scenery along the way.

They drive on the wrong side of the road here with right hand drive vehicles. At around 9:30 we stopped for breakfast at a Singh café.

The breakfast choice was chicken with chow mein noodles or with rice. Delicious.

Then hours more of driving until we arrived here around 1 PM. After a change into shorts and sandals I am feeling great and ready for tomorrow.

I will check in tomorrow. Thinking of you and praying for God’s continued blessing. ron
